My MB has built in cooler for M.2, without it my Samsung 960 evo was hitting over 60c and throttling down under heavy load. Not going over 40c with cooler attached.

I've just installed an NVMe for games. I'm using the motherboards heat sink which has a large thermal pad on it. Ran a benchmark on the drive and topped out at 48C. I'll see what sustained gaming temps are like.
