In HWinfo64 there's a column for Motherboard temps (which I presume is for VRM) and "chipset" which shows only 0c
When something is that hot, Finger method should work.
I'm not sure it is that hot though.

At or above 50c it's difficult to keep finger on it for long.

More confirmation that it is indeed an MB issue, or similar:

So I tried putting my Asus Soar soundcard in the new rig, to see how it did.

For those that dont know, sound was great for me but the mic was horrible when using chat programs while gaming.

It was still bad, kinda sucks but eh...it is what it is. The onboard sound is great on my Crosshair, but since I put out $100 + for the soundcard I wanted to use it

I've only used Creative (SoundBlaster) cards. The last card I bought though is the ZxR, but I haven't used it in my last two builds since I run everything through a USB DAC. And since it can also input digital, I run an optical cable between PC's on-board card and DAC. I use digital for gaming and USB for music.

Anyway your post brought me back to the days I was buying dedicated soundcards. Still would if I didn't have a DAC.

Interesting, which DAC do you have? I googled ESS Sabre and got all kinds of results
