im going to replace his psu for sure, just need to find the right Wattage that will work, nothing too over the limit, maybe 100 over his current one, but it will be good for his computer

I forget what type of computer casing his setup is, so I can make sure the PSU ill get for him will fix his casing; my computer is a Dell XPS 8700, and despite a number difference, the shape of his computer and mine are pretty much the same, right down to the placement of hardware I believe (Taking the metal cover off to expose internals, our PSU's are at the very top left corner)

    Hi,
Dell is not too kind to third party power supplies.
Make sure the power plugs are the same dell tends to do it's own thing I've read.

Which RX580 did you get? That case seems a bit cramped - I also note it has a GPU bracket...first I've seen that.

I would go with the windows update driver at first before trying Adrenalin - also an updated bios is pre-requisite IMHO.

BTW... I agree with Navy, Win 10 will be a better bet than Win 8 - convince your dad that very few developers bother with Win 8 (even MS has closed the Store to new Win 8 apps)

there might be a bit of a problem with the rx580; right now, im trying my best at winning an auction for one of them under triple digit amounts, but everyone is gunning for it, so a.t.m, I dont have it; and to the best of my knowledge, his BIOS is as updated as it can be with his dell computer, only more updaed would be getting a new computer, and money is a bit tight for that particular venture

    - - - Updated - - -

look, I get he has an AMD card and mine is an Nvidia, and as much as I want to try to keep him on the AMD path, to make it easier on myself and my wallet, I might go on the nvidia path and get him the same graphics card I got (GTX 960)

if I can't fight for the rx 580 and win, is there an amd graphics card under the 580 that will perform just as good with rust even if said card is a few version digits under?

I used to have a sapphire 7950 3GB and it worked great even on some of todays modern titles.

    80 SAPPHIRE 100352-3L Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 (Video Card) 840777059920 | eBay

    70 AMD Radeon Sapphire HD 7950 3Gb GDDR5 Dual-X | eBay

Also the rx 280's are pretty much a updated version of the 7950 and have a cheaper price on ebay.

If Rx 580 doesn't get thru, be free to look up Rx 570, uses less power and for 1080p gaming you probably wouldn't see any difference. Up to 1080p it's CPU that does most work. Around here, I can get new 570 for less money than used 580.

well I made the call, got him an rx 570 I managed to find for a good deal on ebay, and an new 24" monitor with amd freesync capabilities, so if he does decide to do some heavy gaming one day, configured right he'll get no screen tearing

frankly, he needed the monitor, like I mentioned above, he's got BAD screen burn on his old one, so much so that one time he left it on some M Rated stuff, and even after closing the windows and putting it on sleep mode, when he took it out and had to give an app on his computer admin access, that M-Rated content was still visible

ill be sure to try and convince him to go to windows 10 after the card and monitor arrives, should be a good deal for him; now if I could solve that latency problem with ds4windows and my ps4 controller that'd be nice, but that's an issue for another time

if he wants performance and DirectX 12 games, there's no other choice.

his graphics card came in today, and before I put it in tomorrow (when his new monitor comes in) and up his OS to windows 10 to match it all up, I just need one question answered regarding the driver software

ASUS has its own stats page for their editions of the amd software (his over here), and amd has its website with its software here. Would I be better off using the amd driver software from ASUS, or just grab it from the amd website and use that instead

Before you put it in, use DDU Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.2.1 to uninstall old drivers. there's an option for exactly that job of changing GPUs.

Newest and best drivers are at AMD site. Download them before starting the changeover.
