Here is the screen shot, that showed up after putting in the 7700k chip Doug ....arrow is pointing to it.
Its the AVX Instruction setting ...never seen it before. LoL
    Attachment 131103
Mike, that is one of the CPU instructions sets, Kaby Lake runs AVX 2.0 if I remember right. It will heat up your CPU quick, so you can set and offset for it. If set to -1 it will downclock 100Mhz on AVX enabled applications.

    AVX offset
The AVX offset parameter allows us to define a separate CPU core multiplier ratio for applications that use AVX code. When AVX code is detected, the CPU Core multiplier ratio will downclock by the user-defined value. This feature is useful because AVX workloads generate more heat within the processor and they require more core voltage to be stable. Ordinarily, an overclock would be constrained by the hottest, most stressful application we run on the system. By using AVX offset, we can run non-AVX workloads, which dont consume as much power, at a higher CPU frequency than AVX applications.
As an example, that means we can apply 50X ratio with a BCLK of 100MHz, resulting in a 5GHz overclock for non-AVX applications. We can then set the AVX offset parameter to a value 2 (or lower if required), which will reduce the CPU core ratio to 48X (4.8GHz) when an AVX workload is detected. This ensures the system stays within its thermal envelope, without our overclock being constrained solely by the AVX workload.

I'm curious Mike, what kind of temps do you have on your CPU running passmark at 5.0? Mine shoot up to high 80's running passmark at 5

Yes running passmark they did same for me too. Under normal loads, they are still higher than my 6700k also. Avg is between 24c and 34c . My 6700 avg never went over 29C So this does run at a higher temp. Even at x48 was still higher.

Yes indeed, that is why I use adaptive. I run realbench at 4.8, tried 5.0 and it went into the 90s...begging for a delid

Well I have not hit into the 90's Doug ... highest was like 86C benching it. also on adaptive too.
I've run realbench too, @5.0 never went over 86C BUT your scores were a lot higher than mine, so I didn't post them.

That was on one of my hotter days here. I enjoy cooler days when it only goes to lower 80s running benches but summer is coming here. I noticed on your screen shot showing AVX you are set to XMP. Try changing that to auto or manual and put in the rest of the settings manually. I found that helps run a little cooler.

Yeah I've got a few things to try ....right now most everything is set to auto. Except for XMP Did set AVX to -1 but it did nothing that I could see. My temps are ok right now Doug, its only when I run bench tests, that they go up. This is real stable @5.0

There will soon be a flood of these, I would imagine. This is an amateur effort, using an intensive game. It does pretty much agree with what I have already tested with windows 8.1 though. Take it or leave it. As the author says, It is early days. ...
