Yeah the couple rads I've used only ek's were really unkind to screw length to the point it's right in the rad water channel way
Hardware labs is between the water channel in the fin area but still don't want to mess with them they are soldered on and can tear the fin off the water channel.
But if really looking a for a rad hardware labs has the best ones really GTS series is popular and GTR I believe it is.
You use the longer screws provided with the rad as they should be designed to fit through the fan, rad, and the thing the rad is attached to. Just don't over tighten or tighten to tight so you don't puncture the rad. Some rads now have under the screw hole a plate so you can't puncture the rad. Fans are normally around 25mm thick so the screws are normally around 31mm I think.

You can do that but you don't really need too
The front fan holes are offset from where a 280mm radiator would mount
Yellow for where the rad would mount with short screws
Red for where normal mount for 140mm fans now mount
I see. The EK rads look like they only have screw hole spacing for standard 140mm width but I'm not certain... Will probably use an EK CoolStream 280 SE... Do they have separate fan and mount holes? EK-CoolStream SE 280 – EK Webshop

They do have a new model that is supposed to be better
But I don't see them the now do not have the frame around them anymore plus the se series is the worst series rad they sell
CE series is a bit better and is what I used for a while with my 2 ek 280 kits but really PE is a better series and should fit too.

Well I am already running one of the CoolStream SE 280 in my CPU only loop and performance seems OK to me but have nothing to compare to so...
The additional 280 rad will be temporary, it's to get the GPU waterblock into the 450D until I decide on a new case. The new case is likely going to be 360mm rads and that's where the rad quality and money spent will matter... The 280's won't be re-utilized.
PE Series is 240 and 360mm rads, no 280mm... Are you saying that a PE 360mm would fit the 450D front? That would be ideal as I could re-utilize the rad in another build.
I use the XE series. Rads and reservoirs are something you will use across many many builds. Get the best they have, it is well worth the money.

If that's the case get hardware labs rads no need to waste money on ek crappy rads at all especially se/ ce like I said pe and as doorules said ex are the only rads that are okay
And even then they all come with an unnecessary extra possible leak where other rads only have one
If you notice where the hose connections on the rads are
That is a removable adapter and the oring often gets damaged on assembly so if I had known that I would never of bought an ek rad at all
Leaks are a bad thing why take the chance but buy what you want too
