    sata not being disabled

hi i built a new computer. parts are: msi x470 gaming plus motherboard, amd ryzen 7 2700x, saphire radeon rx 580, vengeance 16gb ddr4 3200, samsung 970 evo plus 500gb nvme ssd, seasonic focus 80 + gold 550watt power supply. ok, i had a speed problem with the ssd, we installed the ssd into #2 slot. according to what we read, the sata was disabled. not true. we were only getting half the speed. we called msi suport. they advised us to move the ssd to # 1 slot. we did and got full speed on our ssd.
i'm writing this because of the lack of information we received, before building this. we did hours of research, be fore starting this project, and this never came up. we elected to install the ssd in slot 2 to eliminate a heat problem. thank you for listening. pothound

M.2 can be PCIe or SATA

    sata not being disabled

thank you two of us are building computers here. we experienced the same problem. i ran samsung magician, and discovered that it was connected to standard ahci sata. it was a disapointment, because when you connect an nvme to #2 slot, sata is disabled, which it is not. so we discovered the speed was 1600, the speed is supposed to be 3500. we were on msi support most of the day. changing a setting would be ideal. there was no setting to change. they recommended installing our ssd's in slot 1. we installed our nvme ssd's in slot 1 and we got our 3500 speed. we elected to install in slot 2, because it was away from the cpu.(heat). thanks for reading.

    Hi,
These samsung evo's do run warm
Might add a good heat sink to it and out in the other slot
I like this one blower style pwm fan control
