    Waiting for new computer parts

I hate waiting for new computer parts! I currently have a Dell Inspiron 5676:
Ryzen 7 2700X on an x370 chipset motherboard with no overclock ability.
    16 GB 1200 Mhz DDR4
Upgraded video card to XFX RX580 GTS Black Edition OC to 1405 GPU and 8100 Memory (8 GB)
    256 GB NVMe SSD
    480 GB SATA SSD (2.5")
    2x 1TB HDDs
    460 Watt Dell PSU
Dell - 27" HDR IPS LED QHD Monitor

    I've got coming:
    Kingwin 1000 Watt semi-modular PSU
    Corsair Obsidian 450D mid-tower case
    2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz RAM
ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero (WiFi) x470 chipset motherboard

Now I just have to wait. Expected delivery Wednesday, in 4 days! UGGGHHHH!
Next step will be to add a second RX 580 card and then maybe another 16 GB RAM after that.

I think it will be a pretty decent setup?

Could have saved some money on MB by going to Asus Prime x470 Pro for same performance but that's very nice MB, full of bells and whistles. But what about cooler ? If you want a good OC and/or top PBO boost, you'll need better than standard CPU cooler.

Yeah, darn it, you are probably right. I could have gotten the ASUS Prime x470 Pro + a Ryzen 5 CPU combo for the same price I paid for the Crosshair MB and then used the Ryzen 5 to rebuild the Dell desktop for my wife with. Oh well....

I have only dabbled in overclocking before, nothing really serious and never had much luck with it. I now have the second RX580 graphics card on order too. I'm going to get everything running and stable with an AMD Wraith CPU cooler, make a few payments on the credit card all this was put on, then I'll move to a water cooled setup and try serious overclocking.

I think that's a good idea. I'm not a fan of overclocking a new build right away. I like to know everything is working as is before stressing it. This way if something goes wrong I know it wasn't caused by an OC (aka something I did).

I've an i9 system (see system specs) I built about 2 months ago and it's not even OC'd yet. Yeah, I ran a few one touch OC's just to push a bench score but that's about it. The system is currently running at base settings (XMP for RAM).

    That's me.

In my experience with this Ryzen setup, you may not need OC at all, PBO2/XFR2 work fine at auto and even better under a good cooler. My benchmark results show less than 10% higher scores when OC-ed to 4.3 GHz than when left on auto and real world performance change is not noticeable at all. This is my first system in my life that is not running on max overclock all the time.

The worst part of waiting is to receive a tracking number and learn it was sent UPS ground with signature required. You know the expected date is the best you'll get it with UPS and if you're not there, they won't leave it at the door.

Or worse than that is DHL that takes an extra day to get delivered by USPS.

I finally settled on a new chip for my server which was expected to be delivered Wednesday. Luckily they sent it USPS and it will be delivered today. And they'll stick it in the mailbox if I'm not here. My new memory was also expected to be delivered this Wednesday and was also sent USPS and got delivered this past Saturday.

All I can say about OC is it's like a drug, very addictive. You always want that better benchmark score...

I got a friend that had the AC on freezing, the windows open on a cold day and had run the water lines through a fish tank full of ice. He was so proud when he turned to me and said, "look at that score (benchmark)???" It was like looking at a crack head crawling on the floor picking up any specks of white.

Worst for me is when only one critical part is late, then I have to sit on my investment and chair's edge to find out if it would even work if and ever it comes. Over there, you have much better supply and delivery than here, if it drives you anxious, you'd go nuts here.

I bet you're right, I didn't notice you're in Serbia. I get mad when the mailman is 15 minutes late.
