I completely understand this, and totally agree. That wasn't the point. I merely suggest I can get away with an AIO as opposed to the expense of a custom setup. And yes, I'm of the opinion a custom setup would outdo any AIO.
Drew, I don't think either one of us were talking about you. Just making observations in general. A custom loop isn't for everybody. Most people will do just fine without one.

Well they are compared to time, money, and effort to install a custom setup. Outside of that, they work very well for their intended audience - quick, cheap (price) and easy to use. Plus they don't take up a lot of space.
I agree 100%. I am running an AIO right now for most of those reasons. Plus my CPU is delidded and I get excellent temps. A custom loop probably wouldn't make a whole lot of difference to me, certainly not enough for the money it would cost.

Steve, I never took it that way... well in the way of being bothered. And I actually agree with both sentiments.

Anyway you know it takes a lot to ruffle my feathers and this certainly isn't one

And thanks for the advice. I'll stick with AIO's unless I feel a need to get creative with custom.

And you never answered my question about the board.

No, I haven't looked seriously at any of the new 390 boards. I am pretty satisfied with my 370 Apex board and decided to stick with my 8700K for a while. I know there are some really nice 390 boards out now. If I decide to upgrade I'm sure I will look at it. It looks like a great choice.

    Got it.

When the 8700K came out I'd just got a 7700K so said I was going to wait till the summer of this year to see what was out. Decided I didn't want to wait thus this system. Anyway I tend to buy for the board, rather than CPU since most software today rarely takes advantage of the latest CPU, and especially an 8-core one.

Anyway you know how it is.... as soon as you buy something it's replaced. I'm sure I'll be crying this summer with all the new board and CPU releases.

That's the game we play. I'm trying to reform my ways and not buy every new one that comes out.

Same here. In the last 3 years I basically bought 3 PC's - 6700K & MB, 7700K & MB, now the i9-9900K & MB. Now I've got a lot of good parts sitting in my closet collecting dust. Perhaps I need to look at selling some of that stuff off. I could use the money to upgrade my GPU.

But yeah, I really need to slow down as I'm starting to waste money here. Not a good thing

I came to the same conclusion. I just hope I can stick to it.
