    processor

I am not a gamer or into photography. Usually I surf, use Office, occasionally run some DISM commands and would like to use Oracle's virtual machine. With a new build should I get i7 with hyperthreading I don't think I would use, or would an i5 do?
I am not wealthy but would like a decent processor. If i5 would $250 be a ballpark figure?

I am trying for 12 RAM; I know it is usually 4,8,16 - but have seen 8+4.
If it does not work out I will get 8 GB. RAM is quite expensive and I wanted 16 but it really adds up.
    Thank you
