I realize that while reading all your postings that most of you are deep into cutting edge graphic cards motherboards etc. It's such a basic question that I thought about not posting it so before I change my mind I'll hit the submit.
At some point I will need a new desktop case for another build. So I review case sales with a building interest.
I see cases that have RGB, better ways of cable management, or a tempered glass side panel I even see cases that are apparently made of aluminum.
Cases prices are all over the place. Am I missing something ?
Here is what I look for.
Metal mid tower case:
ATX motherboard capable.
Multiple external 5.25" drive bays. and internal 3.5" internals
Would be a plus for and old external floppy drive bay ( people still ask me to read old floppies for them, but I could get an external drive)
Power supply to be located at the bottom.
USB 3, and 2 connectors at the top front (sick of stooping down to connect to USB port).
Multiple fan locations.
No tools required to insert new drives etc.
So other than something like water cooling (not sure why a case would determine that) am I missing something obvious to prefer one case over another other than price ?
Ugh, everybody and his brother are making cases nowadays. Most full ATX size cases Have multiple 5.25" and 3.5" bays and increasingly 2.5" bays as SSDs are getting to be quite normal and affordable.
Prices are also all over the place, more gimmicks, higher the price. Aluminum ones are also more expensive. To more confuse the issue, some come with extras like fan and RGB controllers and hubs.
Cooling wise, most come with multiple ways to install water coolers but have to watch for space at top if you want a radiator there, might interfere with RAM or VRM coolers.
Hi Smalltown and no you are not missing a thing. My opinion is that the first thing is, does the case have the features you are looking for and need. Once that is accomplished, the rest is aesthetics and personal preference. Cases are pretty much personal choices.
Also, the case choice for water cooling is just does it have space for the water cooling components.
If you want one of the Best cases made, then take a look at this one. I also own one of these babies.
