Kol's Delid

I got some cheap Chinese nail polish but at $2 and lack of ingredient description I decided to grab something a tad more pricey which clearly stated No Toluene or Formaldehyde. I saw another guy use Silicone RTV to insulate his SMDs so got some of that in case. So what do you guy's think to go with? The cheap nail polish with limited description, the more expensive one or the Silicone RTV? I think the nail polish will probably leave a more thinner even application vs the Silicone, I will return one or the other...

Edit: Flash Dry Top Coat has Sucrose Benzoate, does that sound like a problem?

Oh I got some JB Weld Ultimate Black Silicone to reseal the IHS.. I got the clear RTV silicone to possibly put a dab over the four small trace contacts on the PCB near the die, I saw somebody else use it for that. I'm still not convinced about coating the trace contacts/SMD's in nail polish, it seems well accepted in the overclocking community but not much elsewhere. I may leave them bare...

Unfortunately my local store didn't have any liquid electrical tape so I tried to find a nail polish as close to the suggested ingredients as mentioned by Steve/Gamers Nexus. I'm only concerned about the Sucrose Benzoate in the stuff I have as the word Benzene was to be avoided. I'm actually more nervous about putting the nail polish on the SMDs than the applying the liquid metal. A clear top coat/hardener is what's mentioned a lot in the delid guides so I should be good. I can't afford to stuff this up though!

Keep us posted with how it goes Kol. The Delid Die mate 2 is so easy to use, it's almost an anticlimax as it's over so quickly lol.

All done and looks to be successful Well the computer booted at least and I'm reading the CPU in HWiNFO.. Can't smell any burning nail polish either!

I found the IHS to be quite firm on my CPU and took quite a bit of force to pop it in the delid die mate, I was a little worried about stressing the PCB. Came in the end though. The gasket silicone was a bit of pita to get off. I took measurements from the gasket silicone outline to get my masking measurement for the IHS.

Things got a little fiddly with the liquid metal, I felt a too larger dot came out. I tried to suck some back up with the sucking nozzle but instead another big blob popped out onto the die! #$% I scooped it with a Q tip. I removed as much as possible until I felt the right amount was on the die (see the pics).

I think I put about the right amount of gasket sealant back on the IHS. After I put in back in the die mate to relid and let it set for half an hour I cleaned out my H110i water cooler.

Idle temps look to be a little better but from the delid stories I've read this process affects load temps more than idle temps is that right? Well the big test will load temps a little later. What do you think?

Well the CPU survived a quick burst of Intel XTU. Definitely have a 10-13C drop in temps. Intel XTU should be similar to a gaming load, the CPU package prior to delid would max at about 72-74C, avg 60C. Cores would max at 69-74C, avg 55-60C. So you can see at least a good 10-13C drop... I may have used a little too much Gelid Extreme between the IHS and cooler cold plate and could possibly be better.
