Question about which RAM to Buy

Hello all. Looking into getting some new RAM for the computer. I currently have 8 Gb, but would like to update to at least 16. I was looking at the following 2 options:

I could just get the two new 8GB ones listed first and take out my old RAM. However, I figured that I could get the 16GB one to add to the RAM I already had. Does RAM need to match? Can I put the new 16GB one with whatever I have now? Does the fact that the 16GB has 2133 MHz as opposed to the 3000 MHz on the two 8 GB ones matter much?

Any direction or other suggestions you all could give would be appreciated. I am comfortable with computers, but buying/installing parts is new for me.

It looks like on here I only can take DDR3 memory. I guess I may need to look at a motherboard upgrade to get DDR4 then.

Yep first platform to use ddr4 is x99 I believe
Now days all newer platforms use it dual and quad channel.

If you do jump to a newer platform that uses ddr4 use this to find the best ram for it :)

Well, it seems that looking into new memory has made this upgrading a bit more involved than I had originally thought . While it would be nice to upgrade to DDR4, would there be much of a difference with getting the DDR3 that my board can already handle? I would prefer, right now at least, not to have to upgrade the motherboard unless necessary.

Also, along with that, the other component I was going to look at after RAM was the video card. Would the motherboard effect that too? I am looking at getting a Geforce GTX 1070. I'd like a decent gaming computer, and one that could possibly do VR at some point, but it doesn't have to be top of the line.

Yeah I believe @AddRAM might be a tad more versed in your options for the existing system
Far as I can tell you'd be stuck in ddr3 land on the current system

The ddr4 ram finder was for if you upgrade to a new system
Who knows when ddr5-6 will plop and mess us all up
