CPU clocks stuck at full speed.

I've just noticed my CPU clocks are stuck at full speed (4.9Ghz) despite switching back to the balanced power mode, only restarting the machine corrects it. Weird..

Update: Yikes it was the LightingService (32 bit) which is the Asus Aura service. It was stuck at 13% CPU... Terminating the service and the clock frequencies dropped back. After reopening Asus Aura it is consuming the most idle CPU cycles out of any background apps. Anyone running it might want to check in Task Manager..

It was the Starry Night effect with quite high CPU usage, back to breathing and the utilization has dropped a lot.

I have a Sound Blaster X-AE5 sound card that has RGB, you can also connect LED strips to it and I have one connected. Certain lighting effects on this can also cause increased CPU utilization. It appears that most hardware with RGB lighting require the CPU to do so and certain effect/colour combinations can cause more than others.

    Hi,
Well yeah if I were going to use any special lighting it would be lighting strips but probably just static color nothing wild
Some of the better or ideal just give a remote with no software needed and simple molex power draw :)
    I believe @badrobot had a good one.
