    Hi,
Nope no need for the mounting kit it's for a hdd cage for a desktop not a laptop
A laptop has a holder for a 2.5" hdd and it will fit a 2.5" ssd.

Don't know anything about the caddy though except at one time I was looking into one :)

You are on the right track!

You only need the caddy, which is the correct one and the SSD. Everything should work just fine with those parts.

You can swap over the CD/DVD drive faceplate to the caddy for better looks. I never bothered on my Asus laptop since it can be a bit tricky to remove from the drive without damaging anything. :)

Once you have all set up and working, your Envy will feel like a completely different computer. Will be WAY MORE snappy.

I have 2 desktop PCs. Both have LG Blu Ray Drives in them. I don't even use disks anymore. I'm afraid to sell them, because just when I do, I'll need them. . lol

Why don`t you compare the complete cost through Amazon or Samsung. Taxes, shipping etc.

    SSD 860 EVO 2.5" SATA III 250GB Memory & Storage - MZ-76E250B/AM | Samsung US

I always try to get items directly from the vendor, if possible.

Finally got around to putting the Samsung EVO 860 250GB SSD, HDD/SSD caddy with WD 1TB Black HDD in my laptop. It was a bit of pain to take it apart, but I not as bad as I thought it would be. Using the caddy for setting up both the WD HDD and EVO 860 made things simple and the Samsung Data Migration made cloning HDD to SSD very easy. I even managed to get it put back together and didn't have any screws left over ... It booted on 1st try with no issues .. yea me :)

Time: ~3hrs (~1hr of that was copying 250GB of user files)
Cost: $165.00 (including tax & shipping)
    Samsung EVO 860 250GB SSD - $68.00
    Western Digital Black 1TB HDD - $68.00
    ModeUS HDD/SSD Caddy - $25.00
