    Can I afford an i7-8086?

Let me first preface by saying that I don't know that much about computers. Let me also say that I probably can't afford this but I'm curious anyway.

The most recent i7 is an i7-8086 right? It has 6 cores but you can't have 128 gigs of RAM. Is there a CPU that has 6 cores that has 128 gigs of RAM?

(The reason I ask this is that I use this program called Dexpot that creates virtual desktops (not virtual machines) and I want to make like 20 virtual desktops but it slows my computer down too much. I think the only way to make 20 virtual desktops run smoothly is to have 6 cores and 128 gigs.)

So, my question is, "Is there a CPU that has 6 cores and close to 128 gigs of RAM?

128GB is a really rather huge amount and you have to buy it separately from the CPU.

Randomly looking on newegg it would cost you at least another $1300 on top of however many hundreds you pay for the CPU (and then you need to buy motherboard and so on and so on).

    128gb ram - Newegg.com

Are you really sure you need such a machine to run basically 20 virtual desktops? I don't know dexpot so perhaps you do but it seems excessive. Perhaps there would be a cheaper way to enable your workflow.

128GB of RAM is overkill, honestly. 32GB of RAM would be sufficient.

The latest version of Dexpot with 20 virtual desktops takes 10MB of RAM.

What are the hardware requirements of the software you use?

Just wait for the Threadripper 2 if you need a lot of cores / threads and RAM.

Why would you want the 8086k when 9900 is right around the corner?

Seriously if you're not looking for the best i would go last Gen and get a X99 6850K it will have 6 cores overclockable all 40 pci lanes and you can get a board that supports usb 3.0 M.2 etc just can't use thunderbolt and Optane but who knows they might of patched some X99 boards

that would run you almost half of a brand new 8086 (rebranded 8700k ) Anniversary edition supposedly

I have one actually havn't installed it yet and i had it delided it's capable of 5.2 Ghz you don't need that much speed and a 6850k can go to 4.5 Ghz easy and will be hell of a lot cooler then new Gen Cpu's period !
