DDR3 or DDR4 ram

My pc memory bus speed is 2133mhz, can be ddr3 or ddr4 because both support 2133mhz.
How to check weather my pc support ddr4. I read somewhere that skylake chipset can support ddr4 ram ?

It has nothing to do with what your cpu will support....it's what your mobo will support. If you mobo is designed for DDR3...well that's all you can use. They are not interchangeable.

It absolutely depends on your CPU nowadays, since the memory controller is on-chip. It only indirectly depends on your motherboard because it supports only memory for the CPU that it supports.

Either supports one or the other, not both.

I found my answer, my model can use ddr4 ram.

I now it's marked as solved but I think a big point has been missed, DDR3 and DDR4 and DDR and DDR2 don't physically interchanged in the slots provided. I've seen only 1 motherboard that could use either DDR or DDR2 but it had to sets of slots to accomplish that.
