    No, not entirely true. Some of us like to make use of our extra HDD's by combining them into 1 single drive.......the type of RAID is optional for us. So we don't have to go out a buy "another" hard drive.

    For me personally, I like to use RAID 0 with my 4 1TB HDD's for the exact reason the OP wants to....to make 1 single drive. The benefits (performance increase) of RAID 0 is just a bonus.

    You are talking about jbod - disks grouped together as a single volume. This is not RAID, so I stand by my statement
