    Upgrading my PC

I am thinking about purchasing an Samsung 970 Pro NVMe M.2 512 GB SSD and was wondering what would be a good motherboard to buy with it. I'd be willing to spend up $300. Thanks for any input.

Hi LJ, it's been a while since I spoke to you. Hope you are doing well and hope you will stop by for a visit more often.

Do you have in mind which CPU you want to use? It's going to be hard to get a new CPU, motherboard and ram for $300 these days. It can probably be done. There are a lot of smart guys here who can do it too. Just let us know what you are thinking of doing and we can help, I'm sure.

You can get adapters enabling older motherboards to use NVMe.

Its been a while since you have been online LJ, you have been missed :) If you do end up getting a new MB, make sure its made by ASUS is all, listen to essenbe's advice too, as we need to know CPU, that your going to get and ram prices are highest I've ever seen them right now LJ
Good seeing you on here .....don't be a stranger. :)

Thanks for your replies! Yes, I would need a new CPU and RAM as well. Was thinking once I had an idea of the motherboard I wanted to purchase then I would see which CPU and RAM would be a good fit. The $300 price range was what I'd being willing to spend on the motherboard, excluding the other items. All told I'd like to keep the total cost at a $1000 or less. I don't do much gaming so onboard graphics would be sufficient. My current Coolermaster full tower computer case and 1000 watt power supply should still be sufficient. Thanks for your help!!

It depends on what you want to do, before you pick even the CPU.

Gaming & over clocking, I would go Intel.

For a work station I would go with AMD Ryzen, because they have PCIe lanes out the wazoo(better for multiple graphics card and all kinds of M.2 NVMe SSDs, and addon cards):)
