    Thinking about building a new PC


    Can anyone tell me how to transfer my OS, needless to say Win 10 Pro upgraded from Win 7 Pro which was retail and on an SSD drive, Samsung Pro at 9.4TB at present, to a new build. This new build will have the 8th gen Intel processor i7, going from i5 or does it really matter? Would like to keep the SSD I already have. I'm trying to keep the price of the new build down, can't believe the prices of new components just outrageous, but my desktop is about 5 years old and anything can happen even with new stuff for that matter. thanks in advance.

    If it was a retail it should reactivate with the new hardware.

    So you're saying that all I should have to do is put my original SSD in and boot correct? Needless to say I must install drivers for new MB or will 10 take care of that?

    I'm already on 3rd system with same W10 installation, never failed to BOOT but had to install new drivers for some parts. It's upgrade from retail W7.

    Gee, they made Windows easy to transfer. I can remember always having to install the OS after a new build, makes life easier.

    Yes, W10 transfers pretty good, in some part because of large driver base and partly because one of first drivers installed is for NIC and can pull drivers from internet so it's best to have internet connected by wire during first start.

    Here's a question, I remember Windows, after installing, you had to have a new ID number. You had to call, at least I did, Microsoft and tell them you're just putting the OS in a new computer. Is that still required or it just does it on it's own?

    It does it thru MS server now. Best if you have it registered thru MS account. I use my very old hotmail account.

    The way you describe it I should have no problems except for installing new drivers, outstanding but at the same time I'll keep my fingers crossed cause you know as well as I do anything can happen. Thanks for the info.
