NEVER use in-Windows software for overclocking. While it may be handy to increase the multiplier and clock speeds within Windows, it certainly isn't a good idea as it will cause your system to hang or crash. Use the BIOS instead.

Depending on whether your CPU's multiplier is unlocked (Black Edition CPU) then you should decrease the multiplier a few and increase the clock speed along with increasing the CPU voltage a bit. 1.45v may be too much as when you're loaded into Windows, the CPU will average at or over 1.5v. You'll need to mess with it a bit before achieving a stable overclock. Use CPU-Z when loaded into Windows to verify your overclock. It will tell you if it's stable or not when you validate it. It'll either say "validated" if it's stable.

If you have air cooling (just a normal heatsink fan) be careful as this will increase your CPU and Northbridge (chipset) temperatures. Usually people use water cooling solutions for CPU and GPU overclocking. Generally Corsair offer the best of watercooling solutions, so check them out.

Thanks, have heard this before...is their a step by step procedure to OC using the bios settings you suggest.
i don’t intend pushing this to its limit...but some increase would be great, any suggestions on a good air cooler ?

    thanks

Had a look at the links, maybe the gain is not worth the effort or expense.....

imthink i will replace the stock cooler anyway....not sure what to search for..

    is this suitable

Looks and sounds alright. Though don't take my word for it as I only ever use watercooling. If you'd like more suggestions, I'd advise waiting for someone else to respond also, or you can try it yourself and report back with results.

No, it wouldn't suitable for your processor as your processor is 100 Watts and the cooler is 100 Watts. You need a little headroom with your cooler. Aim for a cooler than can cool 125 Watts, for instance. And never try to save money and skimp on your cooler. The extra money is worth it in the long run as your processor will last longer with a good cooler.

As far as OCing goes, I would not try to OC that processor on air cooling, unless you has something like a CoolerMaster V8 cooler. If you really want to overclock it, get liquid cooling. You won't really gain much by OCing that chip anyway. It's fastest turbo state is 4.4 GHz. OCing the chip might get you 4.8 to 5.0 GHz. It might not be noticeable.

You should be able to find the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO in England. Here are the specs:

Hyper 212 EVO | Cooler Master

It's my recommendation anyway, but be mindful of its height. It does not fit in all cases.

    Hello
this is a highly recommmeded cooler, I bought one and found it about 25mm too long for my CiT Dominator Case....
    so have now ordered a
    ARCTIC Freezer A11 - Silent 150

as it cools to 150W and much shorter I hope this will be as good if not better...
