I have made the decision to delid my i7 8700k due to high temps.

I am getting temperatures which I am not happy with. See screenshot for temps after playing Project Cars 2. I have lowered the voltage on the CPU and speed it's just over 1.2v but still hitting close to 90C. I am using a Corsair H110i GT cooler with 4 fans. It's pretty cool here in the UK at the moment too!

I feel the only option is to delid. I know the 8700k runs hot but to me hitting close to 90c during gaming is not acceptable. The fan noise is doing my head in too.

I am going to be delidding the CPU myself. I have ordered the stuff to do it today.

A Der8auer Delid Die Mate 2, some Thermal Grizzly conductonaut liquid metal thermal paste and some heat resistant silicone adhesive.

Will update this post once it arrives and with info on how it went and temperature changes.

    Hi,
Yeah these new chips bring the heat
Brian and I bought h110 gt's at about the same time almost 3 years ago when I assembled my x99 and they both died about the same month too

So what are you saying Thrash? I don't believe my cooler has died. Is it not a good enough cooler? I thought with it being 280mm it should be sufficient to keep a cpu cool at stock speeds

Good question. I would have to look it up. I guess it could be approaching that. How exactly did yours die? Pump fail?

    Hi,
Yep I assume the pump died cpu temp hit thermal shutdown and nearly burned up the chip just out of the blue wasn't doing anything drastic either
Put a spare 212 evo on and thankfully the cpu didn't fry
rma was no fun this all happened just before last christmas
Sold the rma replacement on ebay went with a loop kit now :)

Dam that's not good! I managed to find the place I ordered it from and the order date was 22/07/2015

I should be able to monitor pump speed in the Corsair software though to see if it's still running correctly. I will get onto that now.

Hi Paul, My Corsair H110i GTX stopped preforming when I got my 8700K. Think air got in the system from evaporation and temps were rubbish. Thread in the forum somewhere about it. I bought the NZXY x62 and never looked back. as a bonus I sent the old AIO back and got a brand new H115i
