It is also used for SSDs.
It's not only for RAID, it is an updated/enhanced controller driver. The default MSAHCI driver is dated back to 2006 and it is good as its best for compatibility across thousands of computer but it you want to squeeze every bit of performance out of your SSD you need to install the IRST driver.
Yeah your right, as I have lots of drivers from MS dated 2006 ....some even 1968

At the ROG forum you can get just the driver without the UI if you want.

Interesting Cliff, as I've had that installed before, I recognize that screen shot.

    Hi,

These 1968cdrivers are most likely from Intel as that's the year Intel was founded. Long story short for some hardware they needed to cheat on the timestamp for it to work so they picked this one.

Also, it's not because MS driers are timestamped 2006 that they haven't revised them since.
For SATA drives I've never been able to meausue any difference in performance between the stock MS ones and the dedicated Intel ones. Just my expreience though.

    Cheers,

Well, I updated my Code X 1704 BIOS to the B4h firmware for Coffee-Lake 8700/8086 and so far so good on my 5 GHz OC on Realbench and various memory tests. Will try my 5.1 GHz OC next.

Looks promising. Intermediate microcode between 96h and B4h were not stable for me.
