Yes it is delidded and water cooled

Thought I would be cheeky and try 5Ghz on my 8700K.. Temps aren't too bad for non dellided.. Ran a quick stress with CPU-Z.

Not bad at all Kol12, after you've delidded, you can go higher.

Reminds me I should check to see what delid tools are around and how much. What's the most popular thermal compound for delidding? Is it Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut?

Edit: Nice the DER8AUER DELID-DIE-MATE 2 is available in NZ, no ordering in. $60 though, nothings cheap here.

Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut is one of the favorites.

I'm sure I have delid tutorial videos stored somewhere, need to find them. More preparation the better.

Are there any other advantages to delidding other than really nice temps and high clock speeds?

Those are the Main Reasons for delidding !!! In my case Silicon lottery did mine. Keeping your CPU as cool as possible insures a very long life.

They can do yours for about 40 bucks.....

I'm pretty sure delidding will be necessary once I think about 5Ghz+. At 4.9Ghz I usually peak the CPU package at 70C and average 60C under load which is not bad with my trusty Corsair H110i water cooler. I actually thought that I would need to delid the 8700K as soon as I brought it but was surprised to find it quite manageable. Dellided temps will be laughable. Anyway time to play some AC Odyssey (at 5Ghz of course) Catcha.
