Does anyone know exactly what the power/start button does on the Maximus X-Hero? Can I power on the machine with this button instead of the case button?

    Manual - page 18, Number 23 http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/..._UM_V2_WEB.pdf

Why do you need a sound card?
The Realtek 1220 chip that comes with the Maximus X Hero is awesome if you use the UAD driver version with Sonic Suite 3.

I even get better sound on my PC(using a Philips Soundbar HTL2160 w/subwoofer or my Plantronics Rig 500 Dolby Atmos headset) then I do on my Bluray system I have connected to my TV.

Well I had already brought the Sound Blaster card before I brought the Maximus X-Hero. I would imagine the X-Hero sound chip is very good but since I had my SB card and I like it... The reason I brought the Sound Blaster card was because on my previous mobo I got GPU interference noise through the on board sound into my headphones. When I moved my controller in a game the noise would follow the controller movements, lol.

The Maximus X-Hero is a better board than my last so the circuits are probably better. I'm sure you would know if you were getting it...

I had a sound problem for a short time, on my Hero, because of a bad Bitfenix LED(Not RGB, just plain blue LED) strip once.
The rice crispy(snap crackle pop) sounds drove me nuts, so yeah, I can understand.

The Realtek circuit could be better shielded.
But as I said, it's a real good one otherwise.

That's the advantage to a dedicated sound card, it's circuitry is fairly isolated from the motherboards and probably has excellent shielding. Even better would be a line out to an external DAC/Amp if you are really audiophile. If you currently have no issues with the X-Hero on board sound then I think you are fine.
