Oh that's a shame, I take it this wasn't chip brought from Silicon lottery?
Nope. But neither was the 8086 - but Intel did the binning for that.

Did you delid yourself? I planning on doing mine this weekend.. Did you use liquid electrical tape or nail polish on the four small contacts near the die? Have you by any chance un-lidded to see what the liquid metal looks like?

I think I actually hit the silicon lottery with my stock 8700K. My non delid temps have been not to bad at all, maybe better than others. This is 5Ghz non delid Intel XTU. What do you think of the temps?

Anyway I did order the Delid Die Mate and Conductonaut so it better be worth it. Cliff...

I have been looking everywhere for which nail polish to use for delid and gather it has to be Toluene free and high temperature resistant. I can't find anything more conclusive...

Hey Kol, except for how he applies the liquid metal itself(I like Buildzoids method better), this is a really thorough guide(nail polish included):
He is very thorough. Weird how I didn't see him put any liquid metal on the IHS though and that is a must

He also used a custom IHS look at 28:40 where he takes the one on the left, and not the original on the right.

I used liquid electrical tape for mine. Very easy to find where I am.

That stuff is not cheap and I already spent a bit on the delid tool and liquid metal. Plus I only four small contacts that need protecting. I don't want to put the wrong nail polish on and kill the CPU though so does anybody know what else to look for in the nail polish?

It is actually very cheap here. I paid like $12 for a little bottle that would do hundreds of delids.

Another bonus with this product is once it dries you can just peel it off if you need to.

    But to each his own
