I thought about buying from Silicon Lottery into NZ but the price got very high for the 5.1 and 5.2 chips. There was a chance of import fees also. I felt the cost outweighed the benefit. I will likely order one of the delliding tools eventually and give it a shot myself.

That works too, plus I would imagine there are similar places in NZ.

Not that I know of, nothing official anyway. I saw some guy on a local forum offering to delid but that's about it. The tools look very safe to use, I am more worried about squirting liquid metal all over the place!

The delid tools out right now are very good. A little bit of liquid electrical tape on the components around the die takes away the risk when using liquid metal. Or you can use nail polish, same difference. Both are easily bought and quite cheap.

    Hi,
Last I saw on silicon lottery a 4.8 7900x was 1500.us plus tax and shipping i suspect not sure if either were included,
Mine "with delid..." was 1100. and 4.8 is pretty easy just haven't pushed it farther beside a quickie 4.9 I posted here a while back
Just got lucky I suppose guess that's why it's called a lottery :)

    Hi,
Yes 4.7 boost is pretty high
You'd have to ask @worf105 on a non delidded 8700k is like temps wise
He tried it briefly before he chopped the top himself
WoW temps were 95+ and throttling on my 8700K when I first got it, but after (under 24 hours old) it was delidded it was cool

    Thanks Geneo!

Was there any particular reason you purchased a Coffee Lake system Geneo? What did you upgrade from?
I upgraded from a 4790k Maximus Hero VI. No particular reason, just thought it was about time for a refresh.

I guess I got lucky then. I haven't delidded my 8700k. I run 4.8Ghz @ 1.25v and it tops out at around 78c after a good gaming session. That's with a Corsair H110i GT cooler.
An excellent CPU for gaming I must say. Well excellent all round really!

The general sentiment towards 8700k is really good. Rarely have I seen anyone complaining. :)
