Here is the link., the registry settings are towards the bottom:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...tive-execution

    Setting FeatureSettingsOverrideMask to 3 and
    FeatureSettingsOverride to 1

and rebooting will override the Spectre variant 2.

Setting it to 2 disables the OS Meltdown (aka rogue data cache load) patch. Setting it to 3 disables both Spectre 2 and Meltdown.

    Hi,
As long as you also realize both need to be delided because both are little space heaters.
Also you have to realize the differences in default clock speeds in both generations :)
Isn't this more when you start trying to overclock the 8700K? I've heard gaming at stock clocks and voltage is relatively easy to control with good cooling...

Yes 4.7Ghz stock boost on a six core, amazing right?

    Hey guy's,

Today I made my decision to buy a Coffee Lake system!!

    8700K
    Asus Maximus X Hero
    Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 3200Mhz

I cannot see the elusive 8 core (theoretical 9700K) performing better than the 8700K in single core performance. I foresee it will be some time until we significant boost in performance from Coffee Lake. It will likely not be until 10nm is well matured..

Nerves ran wild but I think I have made the right decision!

Good luck in the lottery and getting a good 8700k - no reason not to overclock with that rig!

    Thanks Geneo!

Was there any particular reason you purchased a Coffee Lake system Geneo? What did you upgrade from?

    Hi,
Yes 4.7 boost is pretty high
You'd have to ask @worf105 on a non delidded 8700k is like temps wise
He tried it briefly before he chopped the top himself

4.7 is excellent, and I would imagine setting that up over 6 cores is a piece of cake.

Ok I will! I don't think I will be chopping the lid on this pricey little piece immediately though!

I am the guy who asked about your 450D watercooling on overclock.net btw.

    Hi,
Yeah okay lol small forum world
Just doing 4.5 on my 7900x was a hot experience not delidded :)
I delidded it within 30 days of having it not even a custom loop kit would cool it off.

You can definitely try it without delid cheaper and if not so great results send it into silicon lottery and delid it for like 50.us.

Several of us on this thread have used them and we all would say it was well worth the money and effort. If I were to build another system, I would do it again without hesitation.
