Transfering win10 from a dead computer

    Greetings,
Need assistance please, my MSI Laptop caught the dreaded Logo loop disease and is useless. I've purchased a new Laptop but since this is my work computer, all my files, programs and passwords need to be on the new laptop. Since my 'old' laptop is dead how do get my information transferred? I've pulled both of the drives (SSD and SSHD), tested them (both are accessible). However, the operating system is win10pro, the new one is win10 home. I'm more concern with the SSD drive transfer since that was my system drive (the other was just ancillary program and data storage. Any suggestions besides using a Jack Korvorian starter kit?

Hi, one approach I've used in moving programs and my working environment from one PC to another is to
    a. Have a disk image of the source disk (old PC)
    b. Use the appropriate Laplink (or possibly Easeus) program

Install the program on the new PC and have it access the disk image, and your programs will be 'installed' on the new PC wiht your user identity and settings... there are options as to what to transfer.

Laplink PC Mover has another mode of operation which you may find, involving installing it on your old PC. That is clearly not what you want- it's the cheaper disk image one, which is actually a lot more convenient.

One off license, not so cheap, but it is basically automatic once set up.

(Then there's the manual way- do it all by hand... no licence fee!)

Files can be moved from one computer to another with a hard drive enclosure.
Most often this is done with a notebook or desktop HD.
For a SSD you may be able to get a caddy so that you can move it into the HD enclosure.

Naw, I've already have the HDD enclosures, but I want the new transferred data to reflect my old computer setup. Including changing the win10 home to the win10 pro. But i can't remember the stupid key, have it some where. So, even if i purchase a new key, can i manually set my new laptop with the old info, file structure and program access (office 16, autocad etc.)?

You can try to use Macrium Reflect free, make an image of your old disk and restore it to new one or just clone it to new one. Might have some problems with drivers for mew PC any way you do it.

Not sure how Windows 10 handles this but up untill Windows 7 atleast you can't simply transfer a Windows install from one laptop to another if the hardware (motherboard mostly) is significantly different. It will bluescreen on startup rendering the Windows installation useless. If it does work, there's an abundance of driver conflicts.

I recommend using Windows 10 Home on your new laptop (unless you really need Windows 10 Pro for your work), and spent a day transfering and reinstalling programs. Hook up the drive from the old laptop using a USB interface or put it in an external drive enclosure.

W10 does it even easier, specially if wired network is available. This installation of mine is already on 3rd system since the beginning of W10.

    Hi,
Just swap the ssd's out see what happens.
At the least you should be able to see if the ssd is still in tact and transfer the files to something else

You might also use anytime upgrade and enter your Pro key and keep the entire install MS will change it to Pro.
