pcie sata controller cards for 2010 board speed.

hi i have question about pcie speed from 2010 board.
i have AMD asus m2n sli deluxe and the ports are sata3 (300 mbps) but i have spare pcie-16 x8 slot. right now the harddrive is acer 320gb slow harddrive. now if i got one of those pice sata6 controller cards and put it in to the pcie x8 would i get 500mb speed for ssd or no?

What is the exact PCIe card are you looking at? Do you have a link to it?

To answer your question; that would depend on your mobo's bus speed of the pci lanes.

Please post a link when you are asking hardware questions about your product :)

    M2N-SLI Deluxe | Motherboards | ASUS USA

Your board has Sata 2 ports, not Sata 3.

And your PCI-Express slots are most likely only Generation 2, the specs do not say.

A SSD, even at 3 Gb/s is faster than your hard drive in day to day usage because it has no moving parts.

I don`t think you can gain any speed using a 6 Gb/s PCI Express adapter card.

    Experts can confirm.

PCIe on that MB is certainly gen1, I had that MB once, That would provide lower speed than normal SATA3 but a bit faster than SATA2. If you want to install an SSD, there's no much improvement (in real work) in SATA 3 comparing to SATA2. In any case SSD will be much faster than a HDD. For mechanical HDDs there's no difference at all.

ya the motherboard had gen 1 pcie ports or verson 1.1. i also tested 2 hard drives with crystal disk mark. the seagate barrauda drive seems to hit close to max speeds on sata port where acer 320 drive well it slow and all.
so if i bought sata 3 pcie card with this ssd ADATA Premier SP580 SSD, 2.5in, SATA III, 120GB at Memory Express - Memory Express Inc. i won't get close to read/writes speeds on that motherboard

    Ok, right

    1) Acer doesn't make harddrives
    2) The motherboard you have has SATA2 ports, which go up to 300MB/s
    3) I've yet to see an SSD use more then 300MB/s on my computer
    4) Just get an SSD and hook it up to the M2N's SATA ports. It will be a huge difference in speed coming from an 70MB/S harddrive anyway. The gain you get from getting an expansion card will be marginal at best.

Oh, and 70MB/s is really slow for a harddrive, could it be a SATA1 unit by any chance?

Western Digital Blue. 320AAJS. Looks to be performing well below spec - data sheet here https://www.drivesolutions.com/pdf/WD3200AAJB.pdf

With WD, Black is performance series and most recommended for BOOT and OS. Blue is "New Green" and replaces Green series but with somewhat higher performance while Green is really just for backup and has very aggressive power saving mode. I wouldn't use them so they are always connected, takes some time to wake up from slumber and that could be annoying.
