CPU cooler ?

    Although we have a different set up. Have you tested lower voltage? I have mine OC to 5.1 hz and my voltage is 1.25. My temps stay in the mid 30's at idle. Reaches a max of 50 c during games and running Prime95 and Cinebench my temps maxed out at 79. Lower voltage helps with temps, but depends on your setup. Also my Noctua fans are not running as high as yours are. Just a thought while your testing.

    All I have done is "sync all cores". As far as the fans, I've got to check which fan is hooked up to which connection so I know the proper speed.
    The cooler has the center fan, no clearance for one on either end, and I installed the extra fan right over the cooler in the top of the case. There is also a rear case fan slightly off set from the cooler.
    As soon as I get the chance, I'll associate the fans with correct speeds. Then I'll look into the voltage thing. I'm going to do one thing, see how it works so I can undo if need be. I want this build done right, not fast.

    Hi,
    Sync all cores is an easy way to find your thermal limits and figure out how well the cpu cooler really is

    Today's findings:
    FANS - rear case and CPU are the only 2 running
    VOLTAGE - In HWMonitor the VID voltage fluctuated around 1.4xx - even under a load
    I looked thru the BIOS and the only CORE Voltage numbers I can see are 1.088-1.064 - stand by 1.003 @stealth2920 - how would I get to the 1.25 voltage you mentioned? - I'm willing to try it - I am not willing to start changing things w/o doing it correctly

    It seems no matter what I am doing the CPU speed stays around 4.72x - all cores the same - guess it why the "sync all cores" was suggested.
    So far - all good with this build - thanks to all for your help - AGAIN!

    CPUz will tell you your core voltage and CPU frequency as well as a lot of other info.

    Hi,
    A high performance power plan the minimum cpu state is 100%
    You can change it to 5-10% same as a balanced power plan if you want too I believe 5% is what a balanced power plan uses.
    Then the cpu will throttle down.

    Your VID showing 1.4194 in core temp that's a lot for 4.7 :/

    That's why I was curious about the correct way to get it down to/near the 1.25 stealth2920 mentioned
    I am on a High Performance power plan

    @essenbe - he ya' go - core voltage in the 1.4xxx range
    You have the same CPU with lower voltage - how you do that? -

    I don't know your board or it's settings. But, IMO, that is entirely too much voltage for that frequency. If you have your CPU voltage set at auto, set it to manual and put 1.25 v in and try that. One part of overclocking you need to know is BSODs. You will have them until you find your lowest stable voltage, so don't get upset if you get one and read up on how to reset CMOS, just in case.

    It should run 4.7 at 1.25V, but if you want to be safer, you may put in 1.3V. If it boots and is stable, you can start working your way down, by dropping the voltage by .005 each time and test for stability. Keep doing that until it crashes, you get application crashes or show instability. Then raise it back by maybe .010. That should be very close to your lowest stable voltage at 4.7 with manual settings.

    Your Bus is also set at 100.5, which means you have most likely changes some other things too, which means your ram is also overclocked a little.

    Here is a photo of where my voltage setting is. Not sure on your board. You have to make changes manually as stated above. 1.25 is the lowest I can go without getting BSOD and still pass all the bench testing.
