Advice regarding Optiplex 3050 Tower

I am switching from Mac to pc. I have pretty much decided on going with an Optiplex 3050 tower in the following configuration:

OptiPlex 3050 TowerIntel
Core™ i3-7100 (DC/3MB/4T/3.9GHz/65W)
Windows 10 Pro
8GB RAM (will add another 8GB myself)
1TG HDfor now I won’t get a discreet graphics card - want to try integrated card first8x optical driveDell media card reader
Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 8265 (802.11ac) 2x2 + Bluetooth

Which of the following may I need?

Parallel/Serial port Adapter (Full Height)
VGA Video Port
PS2 Serial Port Bracket, Full Height
Parallel/Serial Card and VGA Port (1 card)

What is your intended use for this machine? Do you have any specific software or hardware you are planning to use? That will help us determine whether your loadout will work for you.

While I have nothing against Dell, choosing a low-end business desktop seems like a strange decision unless you have some particular reason for doing so.

My choice is based on the recommendation I was given by a friend. I know pretty much nothing about PCs.

Main uses would be:

a whole lot of Photoshop CC
little video editing
text processing
the usual Web stuff (no gaming)
some streaming

What I need is 16 GB RAM
a 1TB drive (I will have three external 5TB drives connected)

My last Mac-mini was the mid-level model. It was sufficient for my needs.

So what do you folks suggest I get?

I would like to pay as little as possible.

Unless you need to connect some really, old obscure accessories you don't need any of those optional extras except perhaps the VGA port. I had a quick Google and the default screen connector is HDMI. If your monitor has an HDMI port you're good to go. If you wanted to connect via VGA port, you'd need the optional VGA connector.

My monitor has a DVI port, a Display Port (and a VGA port). The DVI port should be compatible with HDMI, I believe?

You are correct (thank you Google ), you would just need an HDMI to DVI cable.

So what about the configuration I chose? Is it not decent for my needs? What would be a better choice?

Another reason for getting the Optiplex was the warranty. Three years with in-home repair service after online diagnosis.

It should be fine for your needs. There really isn't a whole lot of differentiation in the office desktop space these days past the chassis, CPU, memory, and hard drive.
