The new desktop processors include protections for the security vulnerabilities commonly referred to as "Spectre", "Meltdown" and "L1TF". These protections include a combination of the hardware design changes we announced earlier this year as well as software and microcode updates.

Yup, I thought so, but that would NOT be my reason ....

The problem I would have at the present time, would be choosing which MB from ASUS, way too many choices, and which high end board is the best choice. This 9900K needs more volts, not sure how our 370 boards would handle it....when oc'd very high.

@OldMike65, my only point was just a few years ago it was considered a great milestone if you had a CPU that could hit 5 GHz. Not so today. Almost any of the new CPUs Intel releases are expected to hit a minimum of 5 GHz. Heck, the 9900K will almost do that out of the box. Today if the most you can do is 5 GHz, you are considered to have lost the silicon lottery.

The only difference now is sustained 5GHz on all cores.
Intel says their guarantee is for one core boosting.

What about the 9700K as an upgrade? Will be interesting to see how that compares to the 8700K.

Your board now should haver no problem I think Mike.
The only real difference in the chipsets seems to be the extras(video & sound from iGPU) for gamers and content creators, but not benchmarkers..

Yes I Knew what you ment Steve, plus on my last build, (This rig) I got most of my advice from YOU. So I do listen to your comments very closely.....didn't know you also bought your chip from the Silicon Lottery thou. That is the only place I would get a 9900K if I buy one.
