I have W10 and W7 on separate hard drives, with W7 installed with W10 drive removed. I default through the BIOS/UEFI to boot to my W10 drive, but if need I use F8 at boot to select my W7 drive. I tried other methods of duel boot but found it played havoc with my system.

    Hi,
I'd be more inclined to use vmware or 10's hyper v for xp in virtual machine if at all possible.

The problem is you must always install the old windows first the reason is if you install it last xp will have no idea of win10 boot methods so it will destroy it. You could install with just the XP disk in then select boot option in the bios or as stated that as a virtual of which is the best option

The benefit I found with two separate systems is when my W10 had a BSOD continually for a week until fixed, I could not do anything with the system, however booting into W7 meant I still could access the internet, my emails, and my files.

    Hi,
I would always prefer on separate disks
Problem is as stated booting with both connected they are light years a part in tech.

I settled on this device to keep my different os's completely separate
It has in fact made live a lot more straight forward :)
I never have both os's connected at the same time
Shut down and insert another ssd or 2.5" hdd with the other os on it.
The other bay is for additional storage needs for either os which are also not shared

@ThrashZone Some years ago I used removable bays, and they worked well, however leaving the drives in situ, and using the F8 key works well for me.

Thank you to all who have responded so fast! Here's some more info, i have Win10 already installed on one h/drive & need to know in simple steps how to install Win XP on my 2nd h/drive which is internally mounted & empty. I know how to switch between them once the 2 systems are installed.

Unplug the W10 drive. Plug in the drive you want to install WXP on, drop your XP cd into the cd/dvd rom, reboot the PC and if you see the words "Press any key to boot from cd" press any key on the keyboard to get started, and pray it installs.

You will more than likely end up having driver problems, but good luck :)

Thanks again for your help. I'll try your method after the holiday & report back around New Year, in the meantime compliments of the season to you & all the team.
