How to install Windows XP on a separate internal h/drive

After several days finding the supporting software Win XP is working together with the additional program that requires Win XP! I now need separate external backup hard drives as you can't backup Win 10 & Win XP to a single drive. Many thanks for all the suggestions & for me this thread is no longer required. depends what tool you are using, but can't see why not. Worse case is to partition your back up drive.

The advice i received from Casper whose user-friendly backup program i have used for many years is i need to back up the 2 system drives on their own backup drive. On our other PC i backup a system drive plus a secondary data drive on a single external drive but apparently this setup isn't achievable with 2 system drives. Thank you for your suggestion but i will follow Casper's advice.

I have a laptop with W10 32 bit, a desktop with W10 64 bit duel booted (separate SSD) W7, and these have all been backed up to a single Seagate USB drive using both Windows backup, and latterly Macrium.

Problem is as stated booting with both connected they are light years a part in tech.

I settled on this device to keep my different os's completely separate
It has in fact made live a lot more straight forward :)
I never have both os's connected at the same time
Shut down and insert another ssd or 2.5" hdd with the other os on it.
The other bay is for additional storage needs for either os which are also not shared

I have three of these on my computer using 4 SSD's. Works great. In fact I think I got the idea from you long ago. I dual boot Win 10 and Win 7 and these storage bays are perfect.

Thanks it's made my life a heck of a lot easier
New cases however are very different these days without many with places to put awesome products like this or even cd/ dvd players

I wouldn't share much of anything with 10 if one want it not to come up corrupted by 10 that is :)

If you can run as VM. There is lots of (old) boring malware that will write to track zero (mbr) and bugger up your 10 install. On any disk.

If you can't run XP as VM then unplug the 10 drive when you run XP.

It would be safer.
