WOL stopped working after upgrade from Server 2012 to Server 2016
.. hoping I can get some help on this. Driving me nuts!
Since upgrading to Windows Server 2016, WOL doesn't work for me. I've ruled out network or router issues, since it works perfectly fine on my Windows 7 machine.
I have 3 NICs in a team, but that's irrelevant, since the WOL doesn't work even if I disabled the teaming. One thing I did notice is that when I shutdown my Windows 7 machine, the NICs remain lit. However, the NICs on my Windows Server 2016 completely turn off. I don't recall if that was the case when I was using 2012 on the same hardware, but it seems strange to me. If the NICs are completely off, I can't imagine there is a way for them to receive magic packets.
I checked the UEFI and all the necessary options are enabled for WOL. I also tried upgrading the NIC drivers on the server but that didn't help. I read that Windows 10 has a "fast startup" option that messes with WOL, so I disabled it in the Group Policy settings on the server, but that didn't work either.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful for the help.
