WiFi Has Disappeared from Network Adapter in Device Manager-No WiFi

    Hello,
Thank you in advancefor any help. I am senior who helps other seniors in this small townkeep their pc ‘s operating as best I can.
I have an HP laptopthat was reworked by a shop sometime ago. I updated this pc to WinAnniveresary Issue and then this past Spring to version 1703.
Last week my seniorcalled and said they could no longer get wifi on this pc.
Well I have it hereat home now and they are right. The pc states that no wifi isavailable. And in the Settings-Wireless Devices-”We couldn’t findWindows Devices on this PC.”
    And too in “Network
Internet-Network Connections” there is only one icon, and it is forEthernet.
    There is no icon for“Wifi.”
Under Device ManagerI find the drive for Ethernet and then 8 WAN Miniport Adapters(IKEV2, IP, IPv6, LZTP, Network Monitor, PPPQE, PPIP, SSTP). Whatthese are and what they all mean I don’t know but they all areworking.
I can plug my USBnetwork adapter into a USB port and can connect-see the wifi with noproblem.
I am trying to saveour senior $ by not having to buy another USB network adapter and getthis pc going on the pc’s wifi.
The F-12 Key has thewifi symbol on it and it is amber I have tried pressing fn + F-12,plus other key combos from Google to turn the wifi icon key blue, butno go so far. Pressing F-12 turns the Airplane mode on and off only.
Do I need to installa win 10 adapter driver for the HP 2000 laptop? I have looked for drivers
but having trouble finding one for win 10 64 bit...get a lot of spam driver sites.
Can you give me sometips or links to try to repair this no wifi icon-no wifi connectionavailable please?

Do a search for the Wifi network adapter.

Then see if the have driver support for windows 10

It appears the driver was not carried over from prior OS or windows 10 does not support the wifi adapter driver

either way it appears the driver is missing or the adapter is not being found...

    Many Thanks for Your Rply

You are correct; a search shows no network adapter. But there is one on the pc as it was working for sometime prior to me getting the laptop.

I had to do a reset to clean up the pc. Perhaps the wifi driver was lost then. But if a laptop has a wifi card (I took the back cover off and see one), how can it disappear?

What would installing another wifi driver do? Can you tell me where to find a compatible driver to install? Every driver I search for is some kind of adware or spyware.

    Thanks again for your comments.

Iray, are you sure the computer didn't upgrade to 1709? A lot of people have wifi adapters that stopped working since 1709 was released (including me) and have been unable to find any drivers that work.
Are there any yellow exclamation marks showing in Device manager?

I Just Wimped Out and Bought a New Small USB Network Adapter

    skcusime,

Thanks for your reply and advice. No I have the Win 10 version 1703 according to "WINVER and "About Your PC"
searches. I finally found a driver at Dell that was supposed to be compatible, but I couldn't get it to work.
Too much sugar for a dime for my old brain. So I bought a small USB Network Adapter that came with a disk driver installer. It isn't much larger than a wireless mouse USB dongle. I could have kept troubleshooting this thing for years before I could have solved the problem and fixed it. I couldn't see any buildup or connection problem with the built in wifi. At my age I had rather not spend a week trying to find an answer for something that has made me angry. Thank you all for your input, and the references.

I have windows 10 version 1903. I have no WIFI icon or airplane modem icon is this because of windows 10 or my motherboard Asus B150m-a M2. I am trying to connect my solar system to receive data on usage etc.
To connect to solar.web they instruct me to go to wifi in windows 10 to enter data. But I don't have any wifi icon to make these changes/ Anyone know why ???

    PC or laptop?

Has your device ever been successfully connected to any wi-fi device previously ?

(Connection to solar monitors usually involves connection to the modem, not the computer. Data is then downloaded to the supplier, and the usage is read from the supplier's web site)

Your situation appears to be different from the OP/Original Post in that he/she is using a Notebook/Laptop that do come with a Wireless adapter but yours is listed in My Computer as a Desktop which have not routinely come with a Wireless adapter [some are now]. I'd get a USB Wireless dongle to gain the Wireless/Wi-Fi support, I like the AirLink 101 but there's a number of other brands such as Cisco/Linksys, check amazon.com. The USB type is not expensive, usually less than $20USD.
