    Printers clash

    I have two printers, a Brother label printer and an Epson general office printer/scanner, connected to my desktop computer by USB.

    Until recently, there was no problem, but suddenly they started to clash. If printer A has been used, printer B will not work unless I turn off both printers, then turn on printer B afresh.

    They are connected through a powered hub, but I have tried connecting them both directly to the computer, without any success.

    Check the option to let Windows Manage My Default Printer in Settings. Mine was set with this option checked (default). I was having some printer issues, not exactly the same as yours, but unchecking that option fixed my problem.

    Thanks for that. It wasn't checked, so I tried checking it, but no progress, I'm afraid.
    If I print to the Epson, then try printing to the Brother, although the Brother is correctly identified, I get "Communicatin error betweeen PC and Brother QL".
    The Epson, however, sounds as though it's preparing to print instead, but then the Epson print head moves , then returns to the home position every 5 seconds.

    I had a Brother label printer, and an Epson Artisan 835 AIO. They were both connected to a powered USB 2.0 hub and never had any issues. I don't have the Brother anymore, I replaced it with Dymo label printer but there still are no problems.

    I would try connecting them directly to the PC, to see how it works. Could be the USB hub has developed a problem (I've had USB hubs go bad). If you are not using a "powered" hub (one with its own power supply) that is something else to consider.

    Next suggestion would be to reinstall the drivers, one at a time.
