Wifi very slow to connect after PC sleeps

After the laptop has been to sleep the WIFI is very slow to reconnect, it can take up to 2 minutes. Trouble shooter just says reconnect cable. Sometimes won't reconnect at all.
HP Envy 17" Windows 10, latest update installed, last checked this morning driver says the latest is installed.

No other devices are affected. I seem to have lost the WIFI symbol in the system tray and now have a white square with a red X through it as tho' it doesn't recognise the laptop is WIFI enabled. All is fine via ethernet cable. It started off by having to manually reconnect after sleep, even tho' 'connect automatically' is checked.

I've tried all the usual trouble shooting recommendations such as Device manager > WIFI > power settings and made sure the box 'allow this computer to turn off this device to save power' is unchecked etc.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Morning Mayfly.

This may sound crazy but not that long ago a fix was to re-enable "Allow this computer to shut off". Seems a modern device when implemented properly can actually use this function. You might wish to try this just in case you fall in this group.

    Next I would reset network.

Start => Settings => Network and internet => scroll down righthand side => Reset NetworkThis will "Forget" wireless passwords and you may have to reset any custom communication pacakges like VPN clients.

Next I would head to HP, get their driver for your card, yes older driver. Install and test. Confirm driver version in device manager. This maybe a temp solution as Windows will likely help you by installing newer.

Thanks Ken - that appears to have fixed it. I sometimes have to reconnect manually but at least the icon is back so it's only 2 clicks.
