No internet connection after upgrade

just upgrade and no internet yay I tried removing anything I think might have a firewall nope. even better. I cant revert back to 7 cause after a mighty 10 mins I guess it "deleted the files it needs" best free crap ever. now I get to clean install win 7 or have a $2000 metal rock

SYMPTOMS:
* Qualcomm Wifi worked flawlessly for almost 48 hours after upgrading from Win7 to Win10. No hitches.
* On 3rd day, booted system and everything seemed normal, Wifi connected, no yellow exclamation mark. Internet detected and flowing normally according to the Qualcomm Wireless adapter... BUT!
* All internet reliant apps not working e.g Steam, Team Viewer, Spotify, Dropbox, AV updates.
* Go to any browser; Windows Edge, Chrome or Firefox, cannot browse to any website.
* Checked 'Device Manager' All adapters functioning without issue. Un-installed & Re-installed all just in case.
* Installed Netgear USB Wifi adapter to test, same symptoms (And Netgear state it's Windows 10 compatible)
* Tried installing a Legacy Wifi adapter - still no luck.
* Had 'Tunngle VPN' installed, other threads advised to remove any VPN's and re-install. I did this but no change.

MY SOLUTION:
Just as I was signing up to this website to get some answers I thought back to what I had last installed on my PC. I had updated my Bit Defender Internet Security 2015 software just before my previous shutdown. I though maybe its firewall is up to something weird... Sure enough I turn it off and BOOM! Internet!

* The culprit stopping my internet but causing all adapters to think I was still connected was an annoying wee setting under the advanced settings of my Bit Defender Firewall called 'Block Internet Connection Sharing', I switched this setting off and all is peaceful in the world again. (See attached screenshot - top setting)

It maybe worth checking your firewall even if it isn't Bit Defender for a similar setting. I hope this information saves someone much frustration and wasted time.

You, along with another user named orpheus who also mentioned BitDefender...ARE HEROES IN MY BOOK! My upgrade has been going smoothly the past week and only after reinstalling my BitDefender Total Security 2015 and the program then having a new update today have I had the sudden issue of the internet not working. I guess I also have to mention that although I had reinstalled BitDefender yesterday, I only now reactivated my Windows Firewall.

I'm no techie and by no means am tech savvy, but I feel that only one of them should be working as my firewall. I tried uninstalling BitDefender first to confirm, and, after the reboot, found out that the internet is working completely fine again! Now I reinstalled BitDefender, had both firewalls back up, and the problem persisted again. So now I brought down the Windows Firewall and I'm hoping that BitDefender can act as my firewall, and the net is back again.

Since I'm bad with the tech lingo and tinkering, I decided to go by basic trial and error, but hopefully there is a more optimal option I can take? Right now I'm just happy that my net is back, but is solely relying on the BitDefender firewall a better option than Windows Firewall? If there isn't then I guess it's all good! Thanks in advance for the reply, and another big thank you for helping me solve this issue. Hope this helps others too! :)




EDIT: BitDefender found the error of their ways, and they posted a quick fix to people having the same issue with bitdefender, which I found while trying to reinstall my product. This is a different solution I think, but, as simple as it is, it might be the right one for some, as it turns out it would have also been the right one for me. After the 5th attempt at upgrading, I finally figured it out. If you have any VPN software installed, remove it before upgrade. If you are comfortable in the registry, remove any entries of VPN except system values. Lastly, BEFORE you upgrade, insure you have the latest Windows 10 driver installed for your network adapter and under Power Management of the NIC card properties, ,make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.

I don't know if this will help any of you but every time I upgraded, my NIC did not show, then if it did show I couldn't enable it and it would never populate to allow configuration.

Im out of ideas... I have the Intel n7260 wireless in my laptop and I was running fine for a few days after updating to windows 10.

However I noticed right after I ran a VPN client, ultrasurf, my wireless says no connections are available. When I first start windows it says there are connections available but nothing shows up. After a few mins it will just switch to no connections available. Tried every recommendation here but none work. I can't uninstall the VPN client either since it was just an exe that doesn't actually get installed when you launch it

I had the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite Pro.
I went to Device Manager>Network Adapters>Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter and updated the driver. Straightaway Wi-Fi started working!

I have a similar problem with a brand new Windows 10 Professional installation (no upgrade) from scratch. Right after the first restart where logon was possible I had, guess what, NO Internet Connection. I have a desktop PC with just a normal on-board ethernet controller (Realtek PCIe Family), no WiFi. On the same computer I run 3 other OSs - Windows 7 PRO, Windows 8.1 Pro and Linux with a commercial Boot Manager. They all seem to work just fine with the same on-board ethernet controller and actually I never had a problem with the hardware. Only Windows 10 didn't seem to "see" the network card hardware. It was not present in the device manager at all. I needed some time to figure out that if I completely switch off the PC and remove the power plug for about 5 sec after switching it on again Windows 10 just normally starts with an internet connection. However after the next shut down and restart without removing the power plug the NIC is again "dead" (it doesn't power up) and Windows 10 again doesn't see the hardware, so it can not bind the network driver to it. The problem is definitely a pure Windows 10 (most probably) kernel problem
and I have not found a solution for it yet. Windows 10 seems to incorrectly set the network controller off state at OS shutdown, so that the ethernet card hardware doesn't wake up at power on, unless it gets hard reset by removing the power plug.

I had same problem, but I have net nanny. Ran CMD and within that ipconfig. IP address was assigned.
Disabled Net NAnny, it worked again.
I uninstalled Net Nanny, restarted, and then reinstalled it. That worked for me.

I think I found a solution to this problem. I have a USB D-Link DWA-182 adapter and I went into the Device Manager, Properties, Power Management and UNCHECKED allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Now every time I start the laptop I get a good connection.

My Dell Inspiron 7000 series 2-in-1 was working perfectly on Windows 8.1 with ethernet wired connection using an USB 3.0 to Ethernet (RJ45 connector) but after I migrated to Windows 10 the Wired LAN connection stoped working.
In fact in the "Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network Connections" section the ethernet Lan connection icone just disapeared.

When I check the device driver under "network Adapters" the ASIX AX88179 USB3.0 to Giagabit Ethernet adapter shows as working normally. I checked the driver and I do have the latest version... (Driver Ver 1.16.13.0 Date: 2015-07-27).

Does anyone know the solution to this problem? I hate it when the upgrade actually downgrades a fundamental function (networking) of you laptop... :-(
