How do I create a network password?

Hi, I've posted here about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and since had a lot of my questions answered. I also post in Seven Forums and XP Forms, respectively. I don't wan to be redundant, and apologize in advance. :) I'm pretty setup now with sharing and security permissions everywhere. Here's my final hurdle:

On the Windows10 laptop that has no passwords set and only one user account, Lin, how do I create a network login for her Toshiba laptop when the other computers in the Workgroup ask for credentials? She has a Microsoft account, if that helps.

I tried using her Microsoft account and password, but it didn't work..

For me to setup credentials on my Gateway laptop, there has to be a username/password set up on her laptop to access it. Thank you all once again.:)

If you are trying to connect to outlook.com, you have to use that password, especially if it is used to log into the computer.

Thanks for your reply. I don't want to access her outlook email, as a matter of fact she doesn't even use it. I just want to access her Toshiba laptop. All sharing and security permissions are set. I named her laptop "Toshiba" and her account username is "Lin". What other information (password, etc.) should I enter on her laptop and where should I enter it for her? Obviously, we are all in the same Workgroup, and I can see it identified as "Toshiba". What exactly should be on her Windows10 laptop so that I can enter that information on my Gateway laptop when it asks for username and password? I heard that if you have a Microsoft account you should enter that and the password (which I did) and that doesn't work. It must be painfully obvious to you, what to do, but I am confused. Once I get it, I'll kick myself for not understanding!

Thank you for your help. :)

If you want to connect through the account that is Outlook.com, you need that password, which is the same to connect to their outlook.com account. Not much into it, same as no security or sharing permissions needing to be changed.

You need to set a password for Lin.

    Then you can try

\\TOSHIBA\Lin as an address, and then enter the password.

If not the xxx@outlook.com should work as a logon with his/her password.

p.s. you should edit your original post to remove the full email address :)

If I create a password for Lin, does she have to enter it every time she signs in Windows? Can it just be for network credentials?

Alternatively, when I enter her Microsoft account and password, it still won't let me access her Toshiba. I have it setup in my Gateway laptop Credentials, network address TOSHIBA. What am I doing wrong?

Yes if a user has a password that the computer has more than one user on it, or even just one person using, you have to enter that password every time to get into it. It always has been suggested to use a password to log in, not just leave the machine so that it boots up and opens the system to everyone that can have contact with the physical device or even over a network.

The reason it will not let you access your machine, is either you are not on the same network or you have not allowed any type of file sharing.

You can set a password but bypass to sign in.

Since I tried every way possible (full network sharing/security creating "Everyone" permissions) and tried using her Microsoft Account and password to access her computer, that failed because she doesn't logon with her Microsoft account. Reluctantly, I created a password for her username, because Win10 won't allow blank passwords for network access, and followed the instructions in your url, thus enabling her to logon to her account and return from Sleep mode, without having to enter a password every time, which makes her happy. Now I have complete network access. Thank you everyone for your help.
