Nightly reset for modem and router.

Is it ok to do nightly resets on my router and modem? Im making "network closet" which will hold my Nighthawk x6 and surfboard modem. I never thought about resetting them on a nightly basic tell now. this way i can flush them fresh every morning. or is this pointless?

Unless one or the other (probably the router) periodically slows down due to a memory leak in its operating code, I don't see what this would accomplish. I have experienced this phenomenon, BTW, in some older hardware like Asus RT-Nxx 802.11N series routers.

With modern hardware it is not needed. I too had problems with some old routers and with ISP modems. I have not had any problems in several years, either with an ISP modem/line or the router.

Same way with OS. Used to be rebooting Windows was needed almost on a regular basis, no longer the case.

It won't hurt to do it, but not necessary.

No you do not want to reset the equipment every day. Just leave it alone after setting up. It will actually cause Windows to have so many entries in the registry, that at some point you will get a IP conflict.

I have stuff like my thermostat, U-Verse TV, NAS, Hd Homerun tuner, that have to be able to talk to the servers to get updates over night. Just set up and forget.

I have pictures in my profile if you want to see how my equipment is where it is setup in my Basement. My WiFi AP is in my Living Room and uses POE to power.

With some ISPs (particularly mine), if an ISP detects the modem resetting frequently they might think you're experiencing a problem and may reduce the overall speed of the connection. I have experienced this before.

I am curious why the OP wants to flush IPTables every day.
