what are the pre-requisites for connecting to remote computer on lan

Hi guys , I am having some issues when trying to connect to a remote computer on same lan using account name and passwords. i am trying to map the remote computer folder as a network drive.
on some pcs it is ok but on some i successfully connects but getting blank , no folders on browsing through.

So my question is what are the prerequisites before trying to connect?
here are some of the things i know
    . same private network profile
account and password set up on remote computer

    what are other options ?
    thanks

They would need something like a VPN and you would have to use a service to allow the Dynamic IP for the Public IP assigned to your Gateway, so that the person can reach the VPN server and then connect to what you want them to.

Team Viewer is the best way to do it, since their server tracks the running host of the computer that you have Team Viewer running on and waiting for a connection.

My reading of the OP is that the computer is on the same LAN. There is no connection from outside the LAN involved.

yes network discovery is on. I can see all computers on same network but the only thing is that when I log in remotely using computername/username password, I get only a blank screen, no folders no files to view.

I would turn off password protected sharing, even just temporarily to see if it fixes it:

Does Turn off password sharing for all networks will affect the network profile globally ????

I mean that even my private network profile regarding file sharing with password will change.??
