Windows 10 doesn't recognize my Android phone on Wi-Fi direct

    Hi,

I'm trying to connect my Samsung S5 via Wifi direct to my PC.
When I go to connected devices-> add device it doesn't recognize my cellphone (both on the same Wifi connection)
But my cellphone can recognize my PC.

    What is the problem ?
    Can it be fixed?

Check to see if Wireless tethering is allowed with your carrier. Only reason to use the phone is if you have not got a cellular modem for your laptop. Howardforums.com is the best cellphone forum out there.

    Bluetooth tethering is allowed.
What's wireless tethering? What it got to do with the carrier?
Anyhow I do recall that my PC used to recongnize my cellphone and now he doesn't I've installed jv16PT maybe upon tweaking the OS it shutted down a service that is necessary for this protocol the Q is what service?

OP is talking about wi-fi direct not tethering. Wifi direct is totally independent of ISP wifi as router is not even used.

I use wifi direct to transfer files via wifi to/from my android devices to/from pc directly using "fast file transfer" as much faster than normal smb shares via router.

OK I found the problem but I still can't fix it.
When I went to "Devices and Printers" I saw a shade of my cellphone name (picture attached)
When I removed it and pressed "Add Device" it recognized my cellphone the Wi-Fi direct dialog in my cellphone said enter this pin to connect to other device but there was pin (no digitis or number) then when presses connect from my cellphone my PC started "installing the device" which hangs for several minutes (picture attached) finishes and keep the device in a shady/blurred icon (not connected).

Where is the problem ? in my cellphone dialog (no pin) or in the PC ?

Further more investigation show that while it hangs installing the device it probably looks for a direct Wi-Fi connection , when I go to wireless networks it shows me the direct connection name , The problem is I don't know the password (maybe it's the pin number I supposed to get? so the module could be bugged in the Android cellphone - customized ROM).
I tried the 8 chars at end of connection name (SSID) X360PPD9 but it's not the password.
    Any suggestions ?

You have a rooted phone. Suggest contacting the person who created the third party firmware.

    Yes the phone is rooted.
Is there a default pin number?
    It requires chars/digits ,1-8 didn't work....

The Pin number is stated on the screen by the Master Device (can be 1234 or 0000). It should be stated either on the website that hosts the rom that you are using or on Howard Forums. I suggest as I stated before to contact whomever created that rom about your issue or revert back to the current Google Android version that your phone manufacturer has available.

I don't have a rooted phone but I can't get WiFi Direct to connect to my laptop.

    • Moto G5S+ XT1806 Android 7.1 (unrooted)
    • Windows 10 HP-15 laptop

    • phone: AdClear local VPN firewall/adblocker -> disabled/enabled -> no difference
    • PC: Devices & Printers -> add device -> xt1806 found but not connected (grayed-out)
    • Disconnected PC from home WiFi connection
    • Disconnected phone from home WiFi connection
    • Connected phone to its cellular data connection
    • phone: Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced -> WiFi Direct -> (searching) -> no PC found
    • Disconnected phone from its cellular data connection
    • Reconnected phone to home WiFi connection
    • phone: Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced -> WiFi Direct -> (searching) -> no PC found
    • disabled/enabled Win 10 firewall and tried again -> no difference
    • Windows Network Diagnostics found no issues.

Is my AT&T carrier preventing the connection from happening? Do I need a specific app to make the connection? Any help troubleshooting this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
