If it is the insider build that is the problem, why not go back to a released build that does not have the problem?
I did that, but I'd like to test Build 16215. And now I can, since my Range Extender works in this room (I thought it would be too far away from the router to work) and I can plug my ethernet cable in.

Well, folks, I'm marking this thread as solved, since I was able to move my Range Extender and add an Ethernet Cable to my system. After all that, when I tried the update, it wouldn't!

Also, reading about the really bad results so many are having, I've decided not to go for Build 16215 at this time.

Thanks for all the suggestions/solutions and feel free to continue discussion on this thread, as it may help someone else.

Yes, it does, Tracit, but it's three rooms away from this computer and I don't want to run 30 or 40 feet of cord to trip over.

Edit: We tried to get it closer to my computer room, but the range was just too far.
Explanation of trying to get the Nighthawk closer to my system . . .

When we first set this up, neither my daughter nor I had any experience with networking, so I'm guessing we were just plain inexperienced and it would have worked, had we done things correctly.

We did finally get it right, but three rooms away from my system . . . As I stated in another post, the Nighthawk Range Extender is now in this computer room and things are working fine with WiFi and Build 16199. I'm going to leave well enough alone for now.

And wired Ethernet is always better than Wi-Fi when it is convenient to use.

Have you tried connecting wired directly to your daughter's router just to see if it is your internet or not? Just for closure. :)

Not in this instance, sad to say. In my so very limited experience, trying to turn a WiFi connection into Ethernet doesn't work so well.

She ain't agonna go for that, Robot. Besides, that would put us into the tripping hazard zone.

I didn't mean like that. Go to her house just to check.

Would you believe her computers are three rooms away from her router too, Robot? I'm serious; the modem and router are in the front of the house beside the TV (don't ask me why) and the computers are in the back of the house with the dining room and kitchen between them.

I guess we could take a laptop to the living room. I may try that tomorrow.
