Suddenly can't see other computers on network

Well, wouldn't it be nice if all the web sites with complicated detail about SMB v.1 simply said to check in "Turn Windows Features On and Off." Yes, Ver 1 is installed, at least on laptop B. Another thing to check on Desktop A when I get access in an hour or so.

I had a feeling SMBv1 was installed on B and you're probably going to need/want to install/enable SMBv1 Client & Server on all your PC's. I mentioned that SMBv1 is deprecated, but it has been patched on Win10 against WannaCry and there is very little risk in using it on a home network ... IMHO ... I used it for along time (even before it was patched) without any issues, until I got my new router just a couple months ago :)

Since you're going to be using SMBv1, check Window Services and make sure the Computer Browser service is running and startup type is Automatic on all PC's. I would also make sure that Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication are set to Automatic or Automatic Delay and running on all PC's.

After making changes, it's always a good idea to reboot PC's.

The obvious question is, what is causing this behavior, if everything else is pretty much the same? Also, why does Desktop A always show Laptop B in Network, but no other computer?

Laptop B (which seems like the easiest for other computers to see) is Version 1709 Build 16299. However, it is pressing me to update to 1803. All three computers have SMB v.1 installed. I'm glad they patched that, because I did read about the concern.

Computer A is Windows 10 HOME. At first this seemed highly significant to me, because when I went to switch the Computer Browser to Automatic, I discovered there was no Computer Browser in Services. Searching told me that the reason it was missing was because it is not installed in HOME. However, this theory was blown when I looked at Laptop C, which has the same version and build as Desktop A, and is also HOME--but it does have a Computer Browser in Services.

So, I am restarting the computer with all the other changes; but why is there no Computer Browser Service in Computer A, and is it possible to install the Computer Browser in HOME?

Computer Browser Service is tied to SMBv1, it gets installed when you install SMBv1. After the restart if it's still not showing in Windows Services, then you may have to uninstall then reinstall SMBv1 on A. Make sure you reboot PC after each action.

Note: When you uninstall or install SMBv1 it should ask you to reboot.

Okay, I see. Yes, Computer Browser did get installed on A after a reboot. And now the only computer that comes up in Network is A itself. B, which used to be more prevalent is not coming up yet, nor anything else. (This is after changing the Function Discovery services to automatic.) I will let this computer be used for a few hours and see if it starts to register any other items on the Network.

By the way, the restart was after changing this whole list to all automatic, from the post I quoted from answers.microsoft from Rolando Vil. [Note: Except I think the Homegroup items no longer exist:

That's the only service I needed to change from Manual to Automatic so that my main PC and laptop could see each other properly on the Network. I share an entire partition between both machines.

Prior to changing the service, sometimes Networking would work properly, sometimes not. Sometimes the main PC could see the laptop but not the other way around and vice versa.

Apparently the startup type for this service was changed from Automatic to Manual in the latest Windows 10 1803.
