can't see 5ghz networks although adapter supports it

    hi guys,
i have searched a lot and did not find any solution to my problem (or, in fact, someone with my exact problem)
my wireless PCI adapter supports 802.11a so it should have 5ghz recognizing abillity right?
i went to the device manager to the advanced tab and found only 2.4ghz option

i have an edimax 150mbps wireless 802.11n pci adapter
checked what it supports through netsh on the command prompt:
    it supports 802.11b/a/g/n

tried updating the driver. tried different drivers (ralink and mediatek)
i still can't see it on the driver's advanced tab and can't detect my 5ghz network.
i have other devices who detects it and connected.

    can anybody help?

Not from what I believe, just because an adapter is able to use 'n' it doesn't mean it'll use the 5Ghz network, 'a' is very old so will not be very high speed so certainly cannot use 5Ghz. 'N' is much faster. I have a dual band router & while many of my devices use the 5Ghz band there's a couple which don't one of which Lenovo Tab 3 isn't that old so should be able to use the faster band but I assume it doesn't have the ability.
I'm sure if I'm wrong another member will correct me.

Is the adapter a or AC if it's a it belongs in a museum if it's AC then it's 3gig speed but what does your router support?

    Hi Groo V
Ive got the same problem with my IP builds
Dual band card - but EVERY time i have to replace the driver, only gives me 2.4.
had some fun finding the right one initially, you will too i suspect

Yours is based on the RT2860 driver

open device manager >> update >> browse my comp >> let me pick >>
UNCHECK show compatible devices >> from the list that appears scroll to ralink >> then in the right hand box scroll to it (ignore not digitally signed NOTE you may have to turn off driver signing enforcement).

Googled that PCI comes back legacy 32 bit, but 64 is an option.

it's A and not AC but from what i read in forums it should at least detect it right? should be there on the advanced tab list.
    it's a 4 year old pci adapter.
Samuria: you mean the router may not support A? haven't thought about that... because it IS a dual band router and other devices detects and connects to the 5ghz .

    Hawman: tried it. no luck.

it starts to feel like not worth the hassle and better to just buy a new one

if you have other insights it would be awesome
thank you very much for your attention guys!

An a wont be duel band its just so old. As a is so slow it often gives problems as the router answer to fast fo it and has to do a lot of resending. The cost of a wireless duel band ac now is very cheap

In my shopping experience, you have to look for the words "dual band" and preferably also "2.5ghz & 5.0ghz" in its specifications.

802.11ac is the latest Wireless iteration of adapters. Before that in reverse order were n, g, b, a. Many adapters and Routers of the last several years were b, g, n compatible. If I want faster Wi-Fi I'll need to get a new AC/Gigabit Router, only have 2 computers with 802.11ac adapters, one is a business-class Desktop with the combination 802.11ac/Bluetooth adapter along with the 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter and the other is a Notebook.

Correct, you need to be aware/shopping for a unit with two radios; one for each frequency.
