Wireless connectivity issue on Dell (Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230)

I have Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 issue on Dell Inspiron 15R with Windows 10 64-bit.

Lately, the wi-fi disconnects randomly and it says “no connections are available” or it is connected to the home network but it says “No Internet, secured”. All my other devices have working wi-fi. I disabled the driver in Device Manager and enabled it right after and it works fine for a few hours.

Since last few days, I am re-enabling it at least 4-5 times a day. I have updated the driver, uninstalled and reinstalled it, yet problem persists. In properties, sometimes it says “this driver cannot start. (Code 10)”. After restart, it only works for a while (between minutes to hours).

Today, nothing is working. It says the wi-fi is off. I have turned it on in the settings, yet it can't find any available network and automatically switches to off. I have restarted several times but no effect. I don’t know what else to do. Is it a driver, hardware or system issue? How would I know that it is time to replace the hardware?

I don’t know what info to provide to facilitate the issue. Please let me know!

Hi skale87. Welcome to the Tenforums @skale87.

This is a reoccuring problem. Just to rule out obvious can I ask you to power down your router, wait a minute and power back on.

This tool lets you visualize networks around you. The goal is reduce the overlap as much as possible, certainly with strong networks using the same channel.

    inSSIDer 3.1.2.1 Download - TechSpot

I saw you have the latest driver but I going to suggest you roll back your driver. If you check your update history you will very likely see a driver update for your wireless in the last two weeks unless you initiated the driver update.

Note the driver version you have currently and then do the roll back. Note driver again. Test. If this doesn't work then I would head to your laptop manufacture site and download their driver your wireless adapter. (Windows 8.1 or 10) Again note version so you know it took.

Before doing these kinds of things I recommend you create a restore point. Given the success people are have with System Restore I would also recommend you make an Image. Macrium Reflect is reliable and free. You should need either but you want to have, better safe than sorry.

Others have reported that by disabling IPv6 their issue has cleared. This can be done using this link, and it can be undone.

If rolling back driver works, and you may have to find just the right one, we will have to tell Windows to lay off the driver updates.

    Powering off/on router didn't help.
The roll back option is greyed out so can't do it. I am on the latest driver update.

I am currently doing system backup and image so it is taking a long time.
I will check the manufacturer driver download and IPv6 after the backup.

Post the output of netsh wlan show all. You do not need IPv6 to get on the Internet.

The wi-fi was turned on by Function + F2 (wireless icon). I downloaded the driver download from the manufacturer's website. The wi-if worked for few hours and then it disconnected again. So, I had to disable and enable it again. Same problem as before.

@bro67: What is the "output of netsh wlan"? How do I post it?

Open Command, enter netsh wlan show all. Copy from the command window and then paste the output into a post.

When it worked for a couple of hours did you check driver version numbers. Windows can be very helpful and will update drivers to help you. Would be interested in what driver version is currently on device and if it changed from the vendor one.

bro67 idea is a very good one. It will put into text some of the things that program shows you. (Channels used, networks around you, strength, encryption)

Always my first step in troubleshooting, since it shows driver, available access points, if dual radio capable, what types of wireless, strength of the card, channels that are being seen, etc.

The network adapter is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230, driver version is 15.16.0.2 with the date 1/6/2015.

This report is when the wi-fi is working. My home wi-fi is 2.4home on SSID 5. Will this report differ when the wi-fi disconnects and cannot locate any connections?

Edit: The report looked clearer before posting it. Does this work or should I try to change the format? or post an attachment?

If you paste it into a notepad file and post text file it will be readable.
