You have to disconnect the connection and sign in to the 5 ghz network....as the 5 ghz has a different SSID and password.

I have 4 WiFi access points all with same SSID, if they all have same ID and password, Windows will always switch to the one with strongest signal, if all signals are equal then it may switch to the 5G version.

As mentioned before, if you want to force always 5G then change that access point SSID, this way Windows won't switch.

Tenforums has a tutorial written by Brink on how to change the priority of wireless networks.

In your case I would use option 2, Also look at the examples to help you figure it out.

If you need more help feel free to ask more questions on this thread -- me or any other user will be glad to help.

Are you certain your computer has a 5ghz wireless radio?

Thinking the same thing. This is where netsh wlan show all comes in handy.

seems like its solved by logging into my modem router and disabling the SSID for the 2.4ghz network... but now it takes several minutes for my wifi to connect for some reason

I get a error message that says priority order for profile is not changed.. it also shows that i have 4 diferent profiles which seems completely unecessary... option two doesnt work either because windows simply just re-checks the connect automatically button after unchecking it..

It may be a hidden item in Device Manager under Network Devices. You should not have four profiles.

if your router has that option you could also deny access to 2.4 to the MAC address of your wireless device
