5ghz wifi not showing windows 10

I just got a new modem/router and it has a 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi connections...Only the 2.4ghz shows in the wifi list while the 5ghz isn't showing at all. My computer's network card does support the 5ghz and I know the 5ghz is working because I can connect to it from other devices...just not my desktop computer.

EDIT: I've attempted updating network driver, also resetting network in the settings menu. Both hasn't worked.

    • Right click the Start button and select Network Connections
    • Right click your wireless connection and select properties
    • Click on Configure
    • The settings will be different for different wireless nics, but you may have a mode or channel setting that should allow you to switch to change it to 5Ghz, this is common on non-dual band wireless nics

Yeah I'm not sure then I have 5ghz.

    It's a Broadcom BCM43142

I just don't understand because it's b/g/n I thought some "n" cards could use 5ghz connection and it's a newer card. Maybe I'm not so lucky then.

"N" does not mean dual band. The BCM43142 is a single band (2.4Ghz) chip only.

If your new router is an AC router, then you will want to replace the existing network adapter with an AC adapter anyway to gain that speed benefit as well.

I like this type of network adapter because if you want to upgrade or it fails, you only have to replace the mini adapter contained on the card:
