    Linw,

Two of my Dell computers have nvidia graphics drivers and neither had issues with the upgrade. The XPS15 laptop is nearly 4 years old and the Optiplex9020 was bought new last spring.

Trying to access computer on network, getting error of not having privileges or path not found, contact administrator. You need to allow access from computer you cant access. Following instructions will give your permission

Ah. Well, the recent Microsoft Update solved the problems that were under discussion in this thread for most of us.

One computer still has trouble finding network drives when rebooted to finish an update but, when I boot it again, everything connects as it should on my network.

NOTE: If you have computers that have been updated to Windows 10 then be aware:
It appears that the update changes the firewall settings and the Advanced sharing settings. Here is what I've seen:
    - added subnets for File and Printer Sharing were deleted! So, I had to add them back.
    - Advanced Sharing Settings were changed:
FROM: Turn OFF password protected sharing.
TO: Turn ON password protected sharing.
So, I had to change that setting as well in order to match how the network was configured, tested and working.

Either one will create a few surprises!

    Hi there.

Judging by the number of views in this thread (>200K !!) it would appear that Ms still has some work to do to make Networking function OOB. Most of us here are by no means network gurus and networking is no longer "Special" -- it's really mainstream even for relatively computer novices at home and IMO should function straight away, first time from the initial OS boot.

I've had various problems with Windows Networking as far back as Windows 3.11 -- sometimes computers "Just work" and sometimes at least ONE computer seems not to be able to be seen or access the other parts of a Network and almost no amount of tweaking will fix it even though the hardware / software is or seems identical to another machine on the network.

I can't offer a specific solution here -- but hopefully people from Ms DO read these Forums and perhaps they will seriously look at the whole area of Windows Networking.

When it works it's fine -- when it doesn't it seems totally random on how it can get fixed.

That's all I can contribute to this thread but I do know the frustrations of this topic when one wretched computer can't be seen or can't access what is a perfectly OK network.

(Never had this problem with Linux / SAMBA combo BTW).

W10 networking seems more random than other windows releases though -- apart from Windows NT which was probably the most "User Aggressive" system I've ever had the misfortune to use. XP and W2K3 server seemed to get networking OK then it went a bit pear shaped from then on.

So Ms PLEASE FIX IT. !!!!!

    Cheers

Yes, it does seem to be fixed now, thank goodness. However, in my case, one computer is difficult to access even though it's listed. Trying a few times corrects it and then it works just fine.
